Swinsian11/18/2023 I hope the developers come back soon, or Steven saves us all with a MusicBee port no but seriously, Steven - please do. This has been especially noticeable with audio players (but frankly OS X music players have always sucked). Also now advertises the developer's crappy streaming music service.Ħ) Cog is yet another abandonware and is very barebones and frankly useless.įor the past 3 years or so OS X has been having rough times as far as 3rd-party software is concerned. And it’s quite flexible: In many respects, Swinsian offers a user interface that is what the iTunes interface for music collectors should be, and no longer is. You can even link your Last.fm account and Swinsian auto-discovers other AirPlay interfaces. Swinsian also brings back the option to have a browser view with columns on the left another key feature that was removed by Apple in iTunes 11. Since Perian’s demise, it’s been a major pain playing WMA files natively on a Mac. Swinsian has the feature of notifications when a brand new music is played and supports an extensive array of music formats. Quod Libet has nice sorting (not nice enough for the OP though) and nothing else.ĥ) Vox is a native option that strives a bit too hard for that minimal feeling (so forget about sorting) but ironically the UI has grown cramped and inexplicable while the feature set has bloated. Swinsian is lightning fast, scoffs at the mention of library lag, and supports audio file formats like MP3, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, and WMA to name a few. I recently tried a newer music app for Mac called Doppler, they have a free trial. Tomahawk is actively developed, but has started obnoxiously shoving streaming music integration at the user. Swinsian is not quite a complete replacement, for me anyway. Also try the 1.0 version available from a link on their github.Ĥ) Multiplatform ports Clementine, Tomahawk and Quod Libet are also options. It's decent.Ģ) Enqueue is a pretty competent player, but the developer has evaporated over 3 years ago.ģ) Sonora is another abandonware option, with a very tiny feature set, but it kinda works as a playlist player. It's one of the few music players that is actively being developed. Customise The art grid, column browser and track inspector provide multiple ways to view and navigate your music. 1) Swinsian is the most complete solution right now, which isn't saying much. Swinsian is a sophisticated music player for macOS with wide format support, folder watching, advanced tag editing and designed to be responsive even with the largest libraries.
